Patch 1.0.5 dropped the Icebreaker map: a nuclear-powered cargo ship named Boreas, trapped inside Tarkov's blockade in the Gulf of Finland. It's owned by Paradigm Shipping, probably smells like TerraGroup money, and the entire crew is missing. Escape from Tarkov Icebreaker is the 13th location added to the game and its first fully marine map.
Dude. We have CRINGEBLOG promocode. Among all those “promos” with mini discounts… this one… is HUUUGE and works for Escape from Tarkov bundle boost!
This is a PvE-only raid. No random PMCs. You and up to two friends against Rogues, Black Division, and whatever nightmare BSG bolted onto the lower decks. The map is exclusively close-quarters: vertical, claustrophobic, and completely unforgiving.
INSURANCE IS DEAD HERE. Traders will go through the theater of sending people. Nobody comes back. Your gear is gone. Pack accordingly or don't pack at all.
The map is modeled on Russia's real Project 22220-class nuclear icebreakers: the Arktika-class. Multi-deck, reactor-powered, originally designed for Arctic cargo routes nobody else can run. BSG's version includes what appears to be a medical lab section, which fits neatly into the TerraGroup narrative of unauthorized experiments in places no journalist can reach.
Nobody tells you how to start this. Classic BSG. The quest chain is called Boreas and there are two entry points: one expensive, one actually doable.
Build the Intelligence Center to Level 3 in your Hideout. It intercepts a Boreas questline distress signal automatically. If you just prestiged, congratulations. This path doesn't exist for you.
Head into Ground Zero and find the Paradigm Shipping poster. Most consistent spawn: near the main staircase inside the central TerraGroup building. Read it, extract, then talk to Mechanic through the trader menu. He fills you in and hands you the first objective.
Scout Ground Zero as a Scav first. No gear at risk, same poster locations.
From here you go through either the BTR Driver or Prapor, depending on what quests you've done. The how to get to Icebreaker Tarkov answer is: the BTR Driver path is faster if relations are good. The Prapor branch sends you hunting helicopter oil on Reserve (three spawn locations: near barracks helicopter, Black Bishop corridor, railway cargo section).

Once the Boreas chapter is unlocked, the Tarkov Icebreaker transit is at the pier on Shoreline. There's a hovercraft. It costs 400,000 Rubles. Per run. Do not have money? Use Escape from Tarkov boosting service
The map does not hold your hand about having enough cash before you walk up to it.
Sanitar has been moved. He now only spawns at the port/pier area on Shoreline. Enjoy that surprise while you're trying to board.
The raid lasts 40 minutes. The map is 1-3 PMC players with no random matchmaking: you set your squad before boarding. It is a closed instance. Enemies are Rogues, Black Division, The Wedge, and Knight.

Two bosses. One is a Tarkov Icebreaker boss unique to this map. The other is a familiar face from the Goons.

That's the only way out. One extraction. Single use. Euros only. The Icebreaker extraction Tarkov mechanic is not subtle about wanting to take your money twice: 400k rubles in, 2,500 euros out.
Fire the flare too low and you stay. Fire it on time with a squad and everyone pays their own 2,500. There's no charity here.
Paradigm Shipping and TerraGroup actively suppressed press coverage of the Boreas: its routes, assignments, and cargo are classified. The ship is nuclear-powered, which is not standard for a logistics vessel. Real-world Project 22220-class icebreakers carry full scientific labs for Arctic research. In-game, the medical lab section aligns exactly with that class of ship, and conveniently supports the theory that TerraGroup used it for unauthorized experiments.
To buy Escape from Tarkov currency is your way to unlock story chapter is framed around three questions: how did the ship end up inside the blockade, what happened to the crew, and who is responsible. The answers are in the map. This is the first proper narrative chapter added since launch.
The name itself went through iterations: Severny Veter (North Wind), then Siberia, then finally Boreas: the ancient Greek god of the northern wind and winter. BSG also appears to have embedded a Half-Life 2 reference: the Borealis in that game's lore is an icebreaker involved in secret research that ends up stranded in a remote location. The Wedge boss fits the Combine aesthetic uncomfortably well.

Skip the Intelligence Center. Go to Ground Zero, find the Paradigm Shipping poster, talk to Mechanic.
Yes. Insurance still charges you. Traders still send people. Nobody returns. Your gear is gone forever.
The helicopter doesn't come. You don't extract. Find a better angle and try again before time expires.
Permanent. BSG confirmed it stays in the game after the Icebreaker event concludes. Rare good news.
Yes. Map supports 1-3 PMCs. Solo is brutal but possible. Pack for CQB, accept that you might not extract.
